Course Summary:
The objective of this course is to review current trends that exist in the field of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry including the systemic connection that was found between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease and diabetes. In addition, to provide a review for types of therapy available to treat periodontal disease including types of Non-surgical therapy and Surgical therapy that are available. It also reviews advantages related to guided tissue regeneration compared to open flap debridement and osseous surgery and provides a review regarding gingival recession classifications, as well as therapy available to treat recession. In looking at current trends on dental implant therapy, it reviews use of osteotome versus lateral window technique for sinus augmentation, as well as reviews immediate implant placement protocol compared to delayed protocols and advantages and disadvantages of procedure.
