Course Summary:
The posterior maxilla presents with limitations for dentists that are placing dental implants in the region
due to potential for poor bone density and sinus pneumatization from prolonged tooth loss, restricting
the amount of bone available in the region. The goal is therefore to perform sinus augmentations in
order to increase the amount of available bone present to allow for placement of longer implants with
more bone to implant contact to counteract having poor bone density in the region. The course allows a
review of indications and contraindications for the Lateral window and Osteotome technique to place
dental implants as well as indications and contraindications for use of short implants, Zygomatic
implants and Pterygoid implants. The goal is to provide dentists with a clear understanding about when
to recommend the different augmentation approaches.
